WELLNESS GARDEN
ST. MARY'S DULUTH MEDICAL CENTER

This garden is part of the Cancer clinic at St. Mary's Duluth Medical Center. It is conceived as a sanctuary for healing and wellness consistent with the holistic approach of the clinic. It is intended to restore the spirit and delight the senses and to experience the flowing energies of living plants.

This is a strolling garden with places to rest, offering a continuing revelation of vignettes that are ever-changing with the day and seasons. Curved benches provide gathering places, both public and private. A water feature shares the space with areas covered in thyme and healing herbs.

Our contributions included guidelines for design and development, an analysis of earth energy and layout parameters, symbolic and spiritual approaches to the design and selection of the plant materials, hardscaping and lighting, as well as green principles for sustainable design.
