Wadi Ram, Jordan
Developer: Najwa Tourism & Development
Architecture: Sahel Alhiyari
Landscape Architecture: Vladimir Djurovic
Ecology & Permaculture: Geoff Lawton & Paul Taylor
Located in the Wadi Ram desert region of Jordan, this remarkable eco
spa hopes to capitalize on the extraordinary beauty of this legendary
desert. Made famous in the West by Lawrence of Arabia, this site has been
untouched by development and is located at the edge of a very large protected
national park. Once the domain of the Bedouin, Wadi Ram Eco Spa has been
designed to meet the most stringent ecological parameters. Its conception
includes extensive water reuse, natural cooling, eco pond management,
as well as traditional desert techniques for water retention and use.
Conceived as a luxury resort, Wadi Ram Eco Spa will provide an orchestrated
experience of life in the desert, including extensive trekking, traditional
cuisine, and many healing options. Other amenities include sky gazing,
rituals, and fire ceremonies. In addition, water management techniques
and desert agricultural processes will also be taught to the local population
as part of a community enhancement component of the project's sustainability
initiatives.
The feng shui input included a complete assessment of the site and its
relationship to the surrounding landscape and topography. Recommendations
were made for symbolic and metaphorical systems that would capture the
healing and cultural context of the region. Earth Healing rituals were
also made to promote the healing power of the site.
