ST. MARY'S DULUTH MEDICAL CENTER CANCER HOSPITAL Duluth, MN Architectural Design: HKS Dallas Landscape Design: Derek Young & Roger Grothe Located in Duluth, MN, this new cancer center is part of St. Mary's Medical Center consortium of hospitals, clinics, and health care centers. It has recently been awarded a gold medal by the US Green Building Council for its Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design. The site enjoys superb views of Lake Superior and close adjacency to the medical complex itself. Its program calls for full oncological services, a woman's center, radiology and radiation facilities, pediatrics, and surgery. The center will also boast of a restaurant and wellness garden with outstanding views. Our contributions focused on topographical analyses, programmatic placement, and internal energy flow. Because the site happens to be compromised by geopathic stresses, cures were also effected to balance earth energies. In addition, contributions were also made to the design of the wellness garden.
