SDTC THE CENTER FOR DISCOVERY

The Center for Discovery is a live-in dormitory community for children and adults with multiple disabilities and medical frailties. It is located in Harris, NY. In addition to our contributions to the Master Plan, we were also asked to provide advisory consultations to a number of specific building projects, one of which was the new Pediatric Health Center. This component will provide primary care to the residents of the campus.

Now located on one of the more bucolic sector of the property, the site had once been a highly degraded poultry farm and slaughter house. Conditioning this site for a healing center was our primary concern. In addition, our recommendations also included architectural parameters which were intended to enhance the new image which this building represented for the institution as a whole. Considerations included the materials, colors, and textures used, as well as their interaction with the natural vegetation and the external traffic system currently in development.
