ARCHITECTURE
UNIVERSITY OF MINNESOTA
Minneapolis, MN
Design: Steven Holl
This building by internationally acclaimed architect Seven Holl is part
of the Minneapolis campus at the University of Minnesota. Consisting of
an addition to a 1960s building, this surprising tour de force in concrete
and metal has been controversial since its inception in 2002.
We were asked to provide a complete assessment of this facility as part
of a research project on feng shui and environmental psychology. Our analysis
was carefully scrutinized for theoretical trends and methodological approaches.
In addition to interest in the professional application of feng shui principles,
the institution was also interested in understanding how this structure
works from an energetic perspective. Recommendations were made to correct
problems previously identified by staff and students as part of on-going
analytical work.
