Eastern Caribbean Planning Project
The Castries Harbor Master Plan was initiated by the Government of St.
Lucia in consultation with the United Nations Development Program/ Eastern
Caribbean Planning Project. The purpose of this plan was to rationalize
and clarify development in the main port of this Caribbean island. Master
Planning analyses evaluated traffic, docking, and tourism requirements
while also trying to balance population and community needs in and around
the harbor. Transshipment facilities, industrial, and petrochemical installations
were also part of this study.
Our analysis focused on optimizing existing resources, integrating community
and governmental interests, and providing creative suggestions for neighborhood
redevelopment. The resulting Master Plan has been executed in most if
its central aspects.
